Success leads pair to venture into off-page advertising, with first advertisement appearing in Shoot magazine. 1990; National press advertisements feature offering specific clothing and footwear. 1991; Begins trading as M and M Sports. 1993; First catalogue produced and mailed. 1994; Business flourishes and outgrows Churchward’s Stourbridge shop; site in Leominster purchased, developed and business transfers. 1998; Mandmsports.com launched. 2002; Mike Tomkins joins company, as a consultant. 2004; Management buy-out led by Mike Tomkins in partnership with ECI Partners LLP and supported by Barclays Bank Plc. Sales pass 40m. 2005; Company named changed to M and M Direct to reflect move towards fashion offering. Sales pass 50m. 2007; US Private Equity TA Associates complete a major investment in M and M Direct Ltd. Steve Robinson formerly CEO of Tesco Direct and previously FD of Argos takes over from Mike Tomkins as CEO. M and M Direct was formerly majority owned by its founders and ECI Partners. Mike Tomkins and management re-invest in new company formed by TA Associates, Mike Tomkins now a Non Executive Director. Sales pass 70m.
