EGI (The Edgecombe Group, Inc.) is an architectural design firm that produces digital multimedia products for travel, leisure, and education. The President of EGI as well as the author of the CD-ROM projects, Leland Edgecombe, is an adjunct professor at the University of the District of Columbias Department of Architecture. He has taught Architectural Design Studio for 4th year students and has lectured on the History of Western Architecture from the ancient Egyptian civilizations to the present. As a participant in various recent international tour programs, designed especially for architects, Mr. Edgecombe has been presented with unparalleled opportunities to conduct sponsored research throughout Europe. During a series of international tours, he has been able to visit key sites (exteriors as well as interiors of buildings) that very often were not made accessible to conventional tours or conferences. These international tours were pre-organized to arrange a unique form of travel, tailored particularly for professionals and academicians who engage in advanced studies in architecture, design, and culture of foreign countries. Mr. Edgecombes roster of planned events also included provocative presentations and conversations with leading international architects, and visits to architectural offices and design studios throughout Europe. EGI believes that this invaluable resource of architectural history on CD-ROM can potentially enhance the teaching capacity of high school teachers and collegiate professors of Western architectural history through the use of slide shows and interactive presentations using software such as Microsofts Power Point or other similar programs. This opportunity will not only enable faculty to make significant contributions to the enrichment, thoughts, knowledge base, and research skills of their students, but overall, the anticipated research results can potentially become useful to the nations primary and secondary schools, collegiate schools of architecture, the professional architectural community-at-large, and the humanities in general.
